About this course
This course teaches the hospice Conditions of Participation to the people whose daily work is measured against them - hospice aides, nurses, social workers, chaplains, schedulers, and office staff - rather than to administrators. Part one explains what a Condition of Participation is, where the 23 hospice conditions live in 42 CFR Part 418, the difference between a condition and a standard, who surveys a hospice and how often (not less frequently than once every 36 months under 42 CFR 488.1110), how a survey actually runs through its seven tasks and its published sample table, and the difference between a standard-level and a condition-level deficiency. Part two covers patient rights (418.52), including the notice and signature requirements, the eight rights, the grievance and non-reprisal rights, and the immediate-report rule for abuse, neglect, and injuries of unknown source. Part three covers the assessment condition (418.54) - the 48-hour, 5-day and 15-day clocks and the eight required assessment factors. Part four covers the interdisciplinary group and care planning condition (418.56) - who must be on the group, why the plan of care binds every service furnished, and the 15-day review. Part five covers QAPI (418.58) and what frontline staff feed into it. Part six covers core services (418.64) and hospice aide and homemaker services (418.76), including training hours, competency, the four-part test for aide duties, and supervisory visit requirements. Part seven covers clinical records (418.104). Suitable for new-hire orientation, annual compliance training, and pre-survey preparation.
