About this course
Dementia Care Essentials is a six-hour continuing education course for direct care professionals in adult day services, residential programs, home care and disability services. Six one-hour modules, each with narrated slides and a ten-question knowledge check: (1) Understanding Dementia: what it is and why it matters; (2) Types of Dementia, Early Detection and Diagnosis; (3) How the Brain Changes: what is lost and what remains; (4) Communication That Connects; (5) Person-Centered Daily Care: routines, meals, bathing, activities, wandering, sundowning and safety; (6) Caregiving, Caregiver Stress and Support. Developed from the NADSA Dementia 101 training by Tia Sauceda, Executive Director of the National Adult Day Services Association, with Alzheimer's Association and National Institute on Aging references. Learners must pass each module at 80 percent to complete the course.
