About this course
This course equips direct support professionals, caregivers, and staff with essential knowledge and practical skills to prevent fires, recognize hazards, respond effectively to fire emergencies, and support individuals—including those with disabilities—through all phases of fire and life safety.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify the three essential elements required for a fire to start
- Recognize common fire hazards and causes in various settings
- Apply fire prevention strategies, including safe equipment use and housekeeping
- Describe the four phases of fire emergency preparedness
- Develop and practice effective evacuation and shelter-in-place procedures
- Demonstrate proper use and maintenance of smoke alarms, CO detectors, and fire extinguishers
- Distinguish between fire extinguisher classes and apply the PASS method
