About this course
This course equips child and youth care professionals with the knowledge and skills to safely manage, administer, and monitor medications for children and adolescents. Learners will explore the roles of youth, guardians, and care professionals; understand common psychiatric disorders and medications; recognize and respond to side effects and emergencies; and apply best practices for communication, documentation, and inclusive care.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of youth, guardians, and care professionals in medication management
- Describe common psychiatric disorders in youth and the medications used to treat them
- Recognize the forms, purposes, and administration methods of psychotropic medications
- Monitor for and respond appropriately to common medication side effects
- Apply best practices for medication adherence, communication, and documentation
- Recognize symptoms of medical emergencies such as anaphylaxis and asthma attacks, and implement appropriate emergency response procedures
- You'll be able to identify the roles and responsibilities of youth, guardians, and care professionals in medication management. This means understanding who does what to keep youth safe
