About this course
The Dementia Care Refresher is a two-hour annual review for direct care professionals in assisted living, adult day services, residential programs and home care. Part 1, The Hallmarks of Dementia, reviews what dementia is and is not, the numbers, treatable conditions that mimic it, the common types, the ten warning signs, the stages of Alzheimer's, and the brain changes that explain behavior. Part 2, Caregiving and Caregiver Support, reviews the communication approach, person-centered daily care, wandering and distress, and caregiver stress, burnout, family partnership, resources and self-care. Each part ends with a ten-question knowledge check at 80 percent. Condensed from Dementia Care Essentials (6-Hour CE), developed from the NADSA Dementia 101 training by Tia Sauceda with Alzheimer's Association and National Institute on Aging references.
