About this program
Hospice aides who work for a hospice that takes Medicare need at least 12 hours of in-service training in every 12-month period. This program covers those subjects in 15 narrated courses: an introduction to hospice care, the hospice team's role, the hospice Conditions of Participation, clients' rights and advance directives, employee safety and emergency preparedness, infection control, physical and emotional care at the end of life, communicating with clients, abuse, neglect and exploitation, grief and loss, communication within the hospice team, preventing caregiver burnout, cultural competency, and quality assurance and performance improvement. Every course works on a phone, tablet or computer, saves your place, and ends with a short quiz. Finish all 15 and download a certificate of completion that shows the program title, your name and the date. Federal rules say in-service training may be offered by any organization and must be supervised by a registered nurse (42 CFR 418.76(d)), so your hospice's RN oversees your in-service and the hospice keeps your record.
