About this course
This course prepares Direct Support Professionals and other staff serving Nebraskans with developmental disabilities to meet their legal duties under Nebraska's two abuse-reporting frameworks. It covers the Adult Protective Services Act (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 28-348 to 28-387) and the Child Protection and Family Safety Act (Neb. Rev. Stat. §§ 28-710 to 28-727): who each law protects, how abuse, neglect, and exploitation are defined, who must report and under what 'reasonable cause' standard, how to make a report to the Nebraska Child and Adult Abuse and Neglect Hotline (1-800-652-1999) or law enforcement, how the Central Registry works and affects employment in DD services, the penalties for failing to report, and the immunity that protects good-faith reporters. The course closes with provider-context application: how statutory reporting works alongside internal incident reporting under Title 404 NAC and DHHS Division of Developmental Disabilities guidance.
