About this course
This course trains Direct Support Professionals, respite workers, and other staff in New York OPWDD-certified and OPWDD-funded settings on the state's incident management rules: 14 NYCRR Part 624, which governs reportable incidents and notable occurrences that happen under an agency's auspices, and 14 NYCRR Part 625, which governs events and situations that happen outside an agency's auspices. Learners cover the purpose of an incident management program and every staff member's role in it; the Part 624 classification scheme, including the abuse and neglect categories and significant incidents that make up reportable incidents, the serious notable occurrences of death and sensitive situation, and minor notable occurrences; immediate protective actions; how and when to call the Justice Center's Vulnerable Persons' Central Register at 1-855-373-2122, notify the agency, and enter the incident in OPWDD's Incident Report and Management Application (IRMA); how to write an objective, factual incident narrative; the investigation and the Incident Review Committee; notification of the person, family, and guardians under Jonathan's Law; how Part 625 differs; retaliation protections and good-faith reporting; and the common errors that delay or weaken reports. Realistic scenarios drawn from respite, community outings, and transportation anchor each rule. The course satisfies the 14 NYCRR 633.8 annual training topic on incident reporting and processing.
