About this course
This course prepares direct support and direct care professionals to recognise trauma and to respond in ways that build safety and trust rather than re-traumatise. Learners cover how trauma affects the brain, body and behaviour across the lifespan, why behaviour that looks challenging is often a trauma response, and the core practices of trauma-informed care: safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration and empowerment. Framed for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and for New York providers it connects to the Justice Center Code of Conduct that custodians sign each year.
