Arkansas — DHS DDS CES Waiver DSP Training
Tracks the eight pre-service training topics required of direct support staff under §303(a) of the Arkansas Community and Employment Supports (CES) Waiver Provider Certification Standards (4/1/2024), with biennial refreshers per §303(c). Built for DSPs at DDS-certified CES waiver providers operating under the PASSE managed-care model. Follows Arkansas's own certification standards — no state curriculum or platform is mandated, so provider-chosen coursework satisfies each topic. Licensed professionals are exempt from §303 entirely (§303(e)) and should not be assigned this pathway.

Pathway curriculum
Each module shows the training or evidence that satisfies a requirement, when it is first due, and how often it must be renewed.
Training on HIPAA privacy and the confidentiality of beneficiary information, completed before unsupervised beneficiary contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)).
Mapped training
Training on mandated reporter duties for suspected maltreatment of beneficiaries, completed before unsupervised contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)).
Training on recognizing, documenting, and reporting incidents involving beneficiaries, completed before unsupervised contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)).
Training on basic beneficiary health and safety practices, including emergency response and environmental hazards, completed before unsupervised contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)).
Training on infection control, universal precautions, and communicable disease prevention, completed before unsupervised contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)).
Training on trauma-informed approaches to support, completed before unsupervised contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)).
Training on verbal intervention and crisis communication techniques, completed before unsupervised contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)).
Training on de-escalation of challenging behavior, completed before unsupervised contact and refreshed at least every other calendar year (§303(c)). The knowledge portion is course-mappable; any hands-on practicum a provider's chosen curriculum includes should be documented separately.
Per-beneficiary training on the non-clinical treatment plan, diagnoses and medical needs, medication management plan, positive behavioral support and intervention plans, permitted interventions, and emergency/evacuation procedures, before unsupervised contact with that beneficiary. §303(c) applies the biennial refresher to §303(b) as well as §303(a). Person-specific by nature — tracked as external evidence.
CPR and First Aid certification from one of the three certifying bodies named in §303(d), obtained and maintained in good standing for as long as the employee performs services. In-person skills component — tracked as external evidence; the cadence follows the certifying body's card period (typically two years).
