Michigan — MDHHS/CMH DSP Training
Tracks the direct support workforce training topics Michigan CMHSPs and PIHPs require under the MDHHS Medicaid Provider Manual, MCL 330.1755, and regional CMH training grids. Michigan has no single statewide DSP certification — exact grids vary by PIHP/CMHSP, and outside-vendor courses are vetted regionally through the Statewide Training Guidelines Workgroup (STGW) for statewide reciprocity. Pathway curriculum
Each module shows the training or evidence that satisfies a requirement, when it is first due, and how often it must be renewed.
MCL 330.1755 requires recipient rights training within 30 days of hire, delivered through each CMHSP's Office of Recipient Rights. ORR delivery is a hard carve-out — track the ORR completion certificate as external evidence.
Annual bloodborne-pathogen and infection-control training appears on CMH grids statewide (e.g., Macomb 1/2025 SRS grid). Content is online-able; verify your CMHSP/PIHP grid or STGW vetting status for the specific course used.
Annual HIPAA privacy and confidentiality training is a common line on PIHP/CMH grids (Macomb 1/2025). Online delivery is accepted; per-CMHSP grids vary on refresher framing, and STGW-vetted courses carry statewide reciprocity.
Training on person-centered planning before or shortly after beginning services, per the Medicaid Provider Manual expectation that staff are trained to the needs of individuals before providing service. Grid timing varies by PIHP; STGW-vetted PCP courses are reciprocal statewide.
Trauma-informed care appears on current CMH grids (Macomb 1/2025) as a required topic for direct support staff. Cadence and depth vary per PIHP/CMHSP grid; note the STGW vetting lane for outside-vendor courses.
CMH grids require crisis training on a 3-year cycle (Macomb 1/2025). The knowledge/de-escalation component is online-able and mapped here; any physical-intervention certification your CMHSP requires (approved curricula with in-person skills) must be evidenced separately.
Training on emergency procedures before providing services, per the Medicaid Provider Manual and AFC licensing rules (R 400.14204 for AFC settings). Fire safety and disaster-plan content is online-able; site-specific drills stay with the provider.
CPR and First Aid with in-person skills demonstration, required within 90 days on current CMH grids (Macomb 1/2025). Hands-on certification cannot be delivered online — track the certification card as external evidence.
