Hawaii — DOH DDD DSP Training
Tracks the direct-support-staff training requirements in Chapter 3 of Hawaii DOH Developmental Disabilities Division's I/DD Waiver Provider Standards Manual (effective 7/1/2026): the 18-topic New Staff Orientation, annual continuing education (six starred mandatory topics plus two rotating topics), and the manual's external clearances. Requirements follow the state's own provider standards — the compliance floor is provider-conducted with provider-chosen curricula, which this pathway maps to TeTS courses topic-by-topic.
One organized view of what each learner has completed, what is still due, and what needs to be renewed.
Pathway curriculum
Each module shows the training or evidence that satisfies a requirement, when it is first due, and how often it must be renewed.
New Staff Orientation topics covering an overview of intellectual/developmental disabilities, the Medicaid I/DD waiver program, and the federal HCBS settings rule.
Mapped training
Orientation topics on person-centered planning practices and the participant's Individualized Service Plan (ISP), including the DSP's role in implementing it.
Orientation topics on participants' civil rights, participant rights under the waiver, and HIPAA privacy/confidentiality obligations.
Orientation topics on recognizing and reporting abuse and neglect and on the DDD adverse-events reporting process.
Orientation topics on positive behavior supports and the rules governing restrictive interventions.
Orientation topics on participant health and safety, emergency preparedness, and drug-free workplace requirements.
Orientation topics on service documentation, communication skills, DSP job responsibilities, and professional ethics.
Annual continuing education per Chapter 3: the manual's six starred mandatory topics, two rotating topics selected for the year, and agency policy updates. Provider-conducted with provider-chosen curricula.
CPR and First Aid certification is required; the manual explicitly permits the didactic portion to be completed online. This requirement maps the online knowledge portion — the hands-on skills evaluation must still be completed with a certifying organization and is maintained on that organization's renewal cycle (typically two years).
Tuberculosis clearance per the Provider Standards Manual. Health screening evidence — tracked externally, not deliverable as a course.
Staff in supervisory roles must complete four additional modules beyond the DSP baseline, per Chapter 3. Tracked externally pending a supervisor-specific mapping.
Delegated nursing tasks require training and delegation by a registered nurse per the participant's plan. Nurse-gated — tracked externally.
Hawaii's DSP Certification Supplemental Payment recognizes NADSP Level 1 (E-Badge Academy: 50 accredited hours + 15 e-badges), earnable through the DDD-subsidized WDTP or a provider-developed program. Optional premium credential — tracked as external evidence; any NADSP-accredited pathway qualifies.
