Human Rights and Recognizing Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation

This course introduces learners to the rights and protections of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), emphasizing the Direct Support Professional’s (DSP) vital role in upholding dignity, autonomy, and safety. Participants will explore the legal and ethical foundations of human rights, the responsibilities that accompany those rights, and the steps required to recognize and report abuse, neglect, or exploitation. The course promotes advocacy, accountability, and person-centered care that respects every individual’s fundamental freedoms.
