Pathway curriculum

Supporting participants living with dementia: communication, environment, and daily engagement.
Mapped training
Understanding behavior as communication; preventing and de-escalating distress without restraint.
Older-adult nutrition, hydration, choking prevention, and dignified mealtime assistance.
Safe ambulation support, transfers, wheelchair safety, body mechanics, and fall prevention.
Observing baseline health, spotting significant changes, and reporting them through the care team.
Medication awareness for non-nursing staff: cueing, coaching, and knowing the limits of the DCW role.
Psychosocial needs of older adults: depression, isolation, loss, and supporting mental wellness.
Preventing, recognizing, and responding to wandering and elopement in day settings.
Complete 30 cumulative hours of accredited training across the Direct Care Academy curriculum. Hours carry forward between levels.
