Louisiana — LDH HCBS DSP Training
Tracks the direct service worker training mandate for HCBS-licensed providers under LAC 48:I.5055.H — a minimum 16-hour orientation covering fourteen named topics before providing services, plus a minimum 8 hours of annual continuing education. Built for DSWs at LDH-licensed HCBS agencies serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (LDH Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, formerly OCDD). Follows Louisiana's own licensing rule; completed training is portable between agencies with documentation (§5055.H.3).

Pathway curriculum
Each module shows the training or evidence that satisfies a requirement, when it is first due, and how often it must be renewed.
Part of the minimum 16-hour pre-service orientation: agency policies and procedures, emergency and evacuation procedures, and responding to medical emergencies including basic life support awareness.
Mapped training
Part of the minimum 16-hour pre-service orientation: recognizing signs and symptoms of illness in the people supported, and injury prevention including scald and burn prevention.
Part of the minimum 16-hour pre-service orientation: the rights of persons supported and the confidentiality of their information.
Part of the minimum 16-hour pre-service orientation: identifying and reporting critical incidents, and documentation of services and observations.
Part of the minimum 16-hour pre-service orientation: universal precautions and infection control.
Part of the minimum 16-hour pre-service orientation: managing aggressive behavior, with positive, non-physical approaches. Staff who implement behavior support plans additionally need plan-specific behavior management training.
The 16-hour orientation total required before providing direct care, spanning the fourteen topics listed in §5055.H.1. The individual topic requirements in this pathway track coverage; this requirement tracks the hour total.
A minimum of 8 hours of continuing education each year to ensure continuing competence, addressing the special needs of clients. §5055.J.1 expressly excludes orientation and normal supervision from counting toward this requirement, so it must be met with training beyond the 16-hour pre-service block.
The ANE portion of orientation must be delivered using the Louisiana Department of Health's approved ANE curriculum (supplied free by the state). State-fixed content — tracked as external evidence.
First aid training within 45 days of hire, kept current per the certifying body. In-person skills component — tracked as external evidence.
The provider must administer and document a written or oral competency evaluation demonstrating the worker has mastered the orientation content before independent service delivery. Provider-administered assessment — tracked as external evidence.
Unlicensed DSWs may administer medications only after completing a 16-hour medication course coordinated and approved by an RN (state sample curriculum available) plus RN person-specific competency verification, per Bailey's Law (Act 507 of 2014) and LAC 48:I.9245. Online delivery is sanctioned only for the Self-Direction program. RN-gated — tracked as external evidence.
